Elvaar: I reckon Josie absolutely epitomises the AW girl. Danny
interviewed her during a really busy period in January 2002 when we
had girls coming and going all day and Abby and I weren't getting a
chance to meet many, just had to check out the test shots when we
could. As soon as I saw Josie I knew we had to shoot her, and Abby
agreed. Personaly, I felt we were getting too many bogans I'm not
explaining what they are and a hippychick was just the change we
needed.
The outfit she is wearing in the park white top, pink skirt is
exactly what she wore to the interview. Josie is a sort of middle
class hippy, well spoken and with a private school education, but
couldn't wait to get the hell around the world. When we met her
she'd just returned from trekking in India. She was telling us that
the ablution facilities there are so bad she preferred to just
wander off behind a bus shelter and pee standing up. People would
wander past but had no idea what she was doing, because she wore
long skirts hum, and no knickers, I guess? -ed. for exactly that
reason.
1021 - 1057
Elvaar: It was a hot day and I remember the powerful odour of sweat - the
good clean summer variety - as Josie is not one to wear makeup or
perfume, or apparently even deodorant. I'm really beginning to dig
the smell of hippychicks.
We packed up the gear and headed down to the river, just a few
minutes away. Josie was a little apprehensive about that, I think.
We hired a rowboat and I ended up pulling the oars because Danny
was too busy yapping she's a total motormouth and Abby was too busy
chatting up Josie, I think. It takes about 20 minutes of hard
upriver rowing to get to that old bridge near the paper mill
graffiti has come a long way since the 50's, eh? then a bit further
to the park where we shot the last scene. When we planned the river
shoot I had this mental picture of the model bending over the side
to feed the ducks and we'd get a brilliant arse view, but Josie was
a little shy about showing us her bits this was her first ever
photo shoot of any kind. No matter, that's the deal on an AW shoot,
the model gets last say on the poses, and with a gorgeous girl like
Josie we had no shortage of good material, as you can see.
1021 - 1057
Elvaar: When we beached the boat by the park we took the opportunity to do
a wee scene, which Josie found hilarious and quite odd that anyone
would want to see it. It was during this that we heard the noise of
a tractor mower approaching and she kept looking around nervously,
and to be honest we could see the gardeners not far away but they
couldn't see her so we didn't let her know they were there until
she'd finished. Didn't want her getting stagefright, and we all
know about that, huh guys?
So we set off to find a secluded arbor and unpacked the picnic rug
for the next shoot. Before long we could see the gardeners
approaching again - they'd parked their truck about 150 metres
away, which, incidentally, we have found to be the standard 'I'm
just minding my own business' perving distance. We first noted this
filming _Ginny_ in the park. They had seen us toting the camera
gear and had a fair idea what was going on. Josie was much more
relaxed by now and having a giggle about the whole thing, until she
sat up naked and saw how close those guys were, then shrieked and
hid under the bushes while we gave them the standard treatment -
turned the cameras on them! Nobody likes being photographed being a
perve, especially when you're doing it on municipal time.
1021 - 1057
Elvaar: On the way back in the boat we got Josie to do those video grabs.
She was much more comfortable about being naked by this time.
Despite the thick bush, this river is actually only 10 minutes form
the CBD, and there are houses backing onto the banks all along.
Very expensive houses that is, even though the river is quite
stinky and thickly carpeted with empty drink bottles and other
suburban detritus. God only knows what, or who, is lining the
bottom of that river, I couldn't help thinking as I - yes me -
rowed us all the way back again. We got back about an hour over
time and spun the riverboat dude some yarn about getting mugged by
pirates from the other boathouse up the river and he just laughed
and gave us the deposit back. Methinks that had more to do with
Josie's devastating smile than our clever tale of plunder on the
high, er, river.
1021 - 1057
Elvaar: All up we spent about 4 hours with Josie I think, and I would have
to say they were about the most pleasant I have ever spent at
AW.com.
1058 - 1127
Elvaar: It was quite a chilly morning for the middle of summer, and we
woke Kim up with a bit of wet T-shirt action. Check out the goose
bumps!
1058 - 1127
Elvaar: Then it was down to the creek, a feeder to the river where we shot
Josie. Again, you'd be amazed if you knew just how close we were to
the centre of the city, but this part is only accessible via a
walking/bicycle track so it's pretty quiet during weekdays. The
clearing you can see is a sort of prickly lawn, not sure why it's
there, but a good place to practice her cartwheels. Behind the lawn
is a railway track, a main commuter line into the city, and Kim
didn't mind giving the 9-to-5'ers a wave.
1058 - 1127
Elvaar: For the walk back to the car, Kim was draped in my mumu. Abby
likes to make fun of my mumu, which I bought in Fiji from a crooked
houseboy at the hotel named Ratu Ratu the houseboy, not the hotel.
We passed a couple of guys who had no idea what we'd just been
doing and Kim turned around and gave them a flash to brighten their
day. Guess what? They didn't even turn around.
1058 - 1127
Elvaar: Kim was one of Serena's recruits. Serena is a classic - she comes
out with the most bizarre things when you least expect it. As we
walked back to the car, past the back of a tennis court, I picked
up a stray ball and hurled it over the high wire fence. 'Hey
Elvaar', she called out, 'you're reversing entropy!' I do love a
girl who knows her laws of thermodynamics.

Elvaar: A laundromat seemed like a great idea for a shoot. We imagined the
possibilities - bending over the dryer, enjoying the spin cycle,
going through the dirty undies - but we forgot to consider the
probabilities.
Shoot assistant Danny was sent a-scoutin' and found a great little
place down the charming end of town between a hock shop and needle
exchange. It was arranged so most of the interior wasn't visible
from the street, saving us the trouble of blacking out the windows
to thwart the perves. The next step was convincing the owner to let
us hang out after closing, and 100 took care of that. The deal was
that we would pull the door when we'd finished but as soon as he
caught sight of Heidi and her amazing overhang, he decided to wait
for us at the front of the shop. In fact he was so nice he called
up a couple of mates to come around and help look after us!
917 - 945
Elvaar: This was the last shoot of 38 or 40 or something we'd done in a
marathon stretch last summer. We were tired and Heidi was very
nervous. In fact I recall Abby getting more than just a little
testy as I tried to set up a particular video shot with Heidi
reclining on the back ledge, moving me to contemplate getting a
shot of the camera anally inserting itself instead. In Abby, not
Heidi.
But Heidi was a good sport and I think the shoot went off rather
well, and as you can see from the outtakes, we even chilled out to
have a laugh. But the best thing about this shoot was finally
working somewhere with plenty of 15 amp power outlets!
917 - 945
Abby: Elvaar has the right of this. I was totally exhausted by this
stage, and I'll freely admit I was a pain to work with Elvaar was
not much better, and Danny was sick of us for sure. But the stuff
we got that summer remains some of our best ever, and I think it
was worth it Kim by the creek, Ginny and Michelle together and
alone, Gwyn and Tara, also together dancing and alone, Josie,
Kylie! Lux's return shoot! And, of course, Nadia my all time fave
model. Oh, and Sanne, and... see?
946 - 979
Elvaar: This was our very first shoot with Joanne and a very refreshing
experience it was. You can tell when Abby is exhausted because all
the pictures are taken from a viewpoint about 1 metre above the
floor - exactly the height of her face while her arse is firmly
parked on the wheely stool.
But finally we had a chance to introduce you to Kinko the Koala.
Koalas aren't bears you know, but that doesn't keep them away from
the honey pot! Boom tish. see what I have to deal with? - a. Joanne
wasn't quite sure what it was all about - neither were we, just
making it up as we went along - but she seemed to be having fun,
even amused by Abby and I trying our standard 'relax the model'
patois. We must have looked like a pair of babbling idiots as opposed to what we normally look like - a..
946 - 979
Abby: Anyway, I guess I came across as an idiot I sure made a mess of
her interview form!, but Joanne did not need any convincing, she
was keen to do it, so I told her what we're about, and took the
test shots, and that was it. Her shoot with Mianna was her first
job with us - that's unusual, we usually get models in to do solo
shoots first, so we get to know them, before throwing them in the
deep end with another gal, but Joanne was up for it.
And the second reason I remember Joanne well is cos we have shot
her so many times she has done about four hardcore girl-girl shoots
with us, and several solos, and her, Elvaar, and I have become
friends. We all went out for dinner a few weeks back, actually, and
had a ball.
980 - 1021
Elvaar: Ah, the wavy chair. It still hasn't recovered, poor thing. It's a
copy of a 20's Modern movement design, available in black leather
or ponyskin - and I'm now glad I got the leather, so much easier to
clean! But Joanne and Mianna broke one of the leather straps and
put some permanent creases in the lining of the cushion, bless
their unbridled passion.
This shoot proved that you can't predict chemistry. We'd been
disappointed by the last couple of girl-girl pairings and weren't
expecting much from this one. It was a hot day and we had this huge
industrial air conditioner roaring away so we didn't even bother
mic'ing them up for the video, which we decided to shoot before the
stills, mainly so we could get some lunch.
980 - 1021
Elvaar: So Abby and I were in the kitchen making M&M sandwiches when
we could hear these moans over the drone of the air unit. At first
we thought maybe they were taking the piss out of the whole thing
so we crept over for a look and couldn't believe what was going on.
These girls were wriggling like a pair of oiled ferrets, and so
into each other they didn't even notice us creeping up to reset the
camera position. We had to decide whether to just let them go for
it and get good video, or interrupt them to turn off the air unit
and set the mic and hope the passion came back. Well it did, so we
got some of our best ever girl-girl images, for video and for
stills.
980 - 1021
Abby: Yah, this was a hell of a scene. If I remember rightly, we shot
Mianna first, at like 9am, in Elvaar's garden. She was wearing a
white pant-suit thing, standing in direct sunlight, net-result
being a very complex exposure to get everything looking ok, which
set us behind schedule, which is why her set is only 50 images -
Joanne rocked up for her shoot with Mianna, which we had to shoot
for stills and video, and then shoot Joanne solo. Busy day.
Like all the girl-girl stills shoots that period, this shoot was
fraught with technical problems. As you can see in pics like 0996,
one the lights would fail after operating for 20 minutes or so
overheating, partly cos of the weather, partly cos I was trying to
shoot 15 frames a minute!. That pic as a stand alone is intersting,
I like the shadows, but prolly not so suitable for this, and
anyway, when one fails, the other two are close after...
980 - 1020
Abby: Those blue lights you can see in the wide shots 1007 - coming soon
are the lights we use for video that blue cellophane stuff - called
gel - changes the yellow-ness of the incandescent lights to match
the daylight coming thru the window. You can see Elvaar
relaxingHHHdirecting from the sofa in 1007, as well. Oh, er, and my
wheely chair... :
1018 is a fave pic of mine, you could not find two more genuine and
relaxed smiles anywhere. Oh, and check out Danny's tummy in the
next pic! She was lazing about reading a paper during a shoot
earlier in the week, and burnt herself to a crisp. Tsk tsk.
